Jessica Rae’s sound is as unique and infectious as her laugh. When you leave one of her gigs you know you've heard something entirely her own, something much better than 'sounds like'. Her music brings your heart and attention to the stage, knowing that here is an artist that can quiet bar chatter with a song, and a smile that can mesmerize, and charm, an unready audience.
Most recently, Jessica Rae was selected to be the first female recording artist sponsored by Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka. World renowned photographer, Marc Hauser, known for his documentary photographic style of capturing legends before they are legends, features Jessica Rae regularly and invited her to write the introduction for his newly released "3 Decades of Portraits". Jessica Rae writes what she knows. "Coming to grips with the meaning of writing stories, then performing them, I find a thrill of experiencing this upclose and personal friendliness with others. I make it my business to serve up every consideration for my fans, to create songs they'll believe, to be a voice they'll remember, and be a friend they'll revisit." Jessica Rae’s storytelling is moving, her sound clear and natural. She's dedicated to reach a tonal perfection with a voice that needs no attitude or glitzy routine. Her sense of humor and irrepressible spirit draws audiences into a wonderland of what's going to happen next. The party starts when she arrives and seems over when her laugh leaves the room.
Jessica Rae grew up in Chicago, immersed in art and music. Inspired by her grandfather’s blue grass fiddle, she began classical violin training at four years old. "My grandfather was a vivacious, free spirited family man. Listening to his stories, his music and the way he laughed inside of both, I realized music is a wonderful way to connect with people." At the age of 11, she auditioned and was invited to join a traveling group of 30 violinists, touring around the world to places such as Russia, China, Austria, and Australia. Upon graduating high school, Jessica Rae continued her musical education by attending Michigan State University on a music scholarship, graduating with a BA in Violin Performance. After graduation, she moved back to her hometown, Chicago, and started working in advertising.
A year later, her grandmother, a big band singer in the 40's, passed away. To honor her, Jessica Rae heartfully sang "Ave Maria", acapella, at the church and, suddenly, her idea of musical expression took on a whole new meaning for her. "People were shocked to know that I had this voice inside me that I had never shown before and I was encouraged to move to Nashville. My long term goal as an artist is that I would like to share stories that are fun, gripping and poignant." Down in Nashville, she began writing and performing original songs, developing her own unique sound which incorporates her classical training and love of meter, pitch, and tone with something youthful and energized. "I believe in family, virtue, and laughter. I think my fans recognize this about me when I am performing on stage."
Jessica Rae's conquering spirit, her stories, her tenacity, and her rocket laugh, never disappoint.
